Golden Gate

This is a sunrise HDR shot of the Golden Gate bridge taken from Battery Spencer in the
Golden Gate National Recreation area.  Battery Spencer existed in the late 1800's
as a fortified defense site for the Golden Gate area.  It was initially armed with two
M1888 12-inch breech loading rifles in 1897.  These guns had barrels in excess of 35' and
an effective range of over 8 1/2 miles.  The battery was decommissioned in 1942 at the
start of World War II.  Today the battery is still a popular place for "shooting" the
Golden Gate bridge with San Francisco skyline rising in the background.
